Logo abaixo o filme.

Documentary: Divorce: Iranian Style

Plot: Divorce: Iranian Style unfolds inside an Iranian divorce court, providing a subtle and intimate look at the lives of women in a country stereotypically associated with fanaticism and oppression. Astute and beautifully observed, the film reveals the ingenuity and humor with which Iranian women negotiate the restrictions of their society.

(UNFOLD = DESDOBRAR|DESENROLAR

Stereotypically = DE UMA MANEIRA ESTEREOTIPADA| POR CONVENÇÃO)

Divorce: Iranian Style challenges preconceptions about what life is like for women in Iran. The most startling thing about the film is simply that it was made. The filmmakers follow the cases of three women who are attempting to divorce their husbands.

(startling = ALARMANTE)

Filmed inside an Iranian divorce court – after an 18-month wait to obtain permission – the film explores five cases and five fascinating and strong but very different women.

Rather than the exposé of ‘barbaric’ Iranian law the title seems to promise, we get a film that attempts to show the reality of how the legal system affects people’s lives. We meet Judge Deldar (which means ‘sweetheart’), a cleric and expert in Islamic law, who gradually becomes the film’s human centre. Delivering such hilarious statements (to Western ears) as ‘You must make yourself attractive so that he returns to your marriage’, he also displays endless patience in dealing with the near-hysterical Maryam who is fighting to keep her children. We see him sometimes torn but more often treading carefully between the written law and its practical implications.

Although Iranian religious law frowns on divorce, a man is allowed to claim the privilege without needing to show cause, provided he pays his ex-wife compensation. A woman, however, can only sue for divorce if she can prove that her husband is sterile or mad, or if he agrees to let her out of their marriage contract. In the last case, the compensation becomes the bargaining chip: the man will sometimes give his wife her freedom if he doesn’t have to pay.

(FROWN ON – DESAPROVAR

Provided = Conjunção = DESDE QUE)

Sue = processar, acionar, mover ação judicial

Chip = peça)

The women are assertive, demanding, and persistent to a degree that confounds stereotypes of oppression. They challenge the judge, badger the uncooperative clerk for misplaced files, chew out their husbands and their husbands’ families.

(assertive = assertivas

Demanding = exigente

Confound – confundir, misturar

Badger = atormentar

Misplace- colocar em lugar errado

Chew out = repreender)

At one point, the judge tells a little girl (the daughter of the court stenographer who has been a fixture in the court from the age of two months) that he has a man picked out for her who’s not like the riffraff that come in here. The girl has a more radical plan: I won’t marry ever, now that I know what husbands are like.

(stenographer = taquígrafo

Fixture = permanente no local há muito tempo

Riffraff= gentalha, ralé)

Katy Perry Firework!

"Do you ever feel Like a plastic bag?

Drifting through the wind Wanting to start again ?

Do you ever feel Feel so paper-thin Like a house of cards One blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel Already buried deep Six feet under Screams but no one seems to hear a thing?

Do you know that there's Still a chance for you?

‘Cause there's a spark in you...You just gotta Ignite the light And let it shine

Just own the night Like the Fourth of July

‘Cause baby, you're a firework

Come on show 'em what you're worth

Make ‘em go, "Aah, aah, aah"

As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make ‘em go, "Aah, aah, aah"

You're gonna leave them all in awe, awe, awe

You don't have to feel Like a wasted space You're original Can not be replaced

If you only knew What the future holds After a hurricane Comes a rainbow

Maybe a reason why All the doors were closed So you could open one That leads you to the perfect road!

Like a lightning bolt Your heart will glow

And when it's time you'll know...You just gotta Ignite the light And let it shine

Just own the night Like the Fourth of July

‘Cause baby, you're a firework

Come on show 'em what you're worth

Make ‘em go, "Aah, aah, aah"

As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you're a firework

Come on let your colors burst

Make ‘em go, "Aah, aah, aah"

Poema de Natal do Alan

Veremos 18 itens:

1) No primeiro verso do “poema” do Alan, ele diz:

‘As this wonderful year draws to and end’

Mil última forma! be so kind as to do it queira fazê-lo, por favor. busy as a bee diligente como uma abelha. classical books as the plays of Racine livros clássicos como os dramas de Racine. do as you wish faça como quiser. he as well as she ele como ela, tanto ele quanto ela, ambos. he went so far as to say...ele chegou a ponto de afirmar... his position as a banker sua posição como banqueiro. she smiled as she did it ela sorriu ao fazê-lo. such as como por exemplo. twice as large duas vezes maior. we may as well tell her podemos contar-lhe do mesmo jeito, não há razão para não dizer a ela.

2) A próxima expressão:

To draw to na end = significa “se encaminha para o fim”, ou seja, “está terminando”.

3) So thankful = tão agradecidos

4) Blessings = bençãos

5) Galore = adjetivo = em abundância.

6) Like= como (como por exemplo...)

7) Fiancée = noiva – esta palavra é francesa, mas a língua inglesa a utiliza, é um substantivo: ela é minha noiva | she is my Fiancée

Veja bem, quando for dizer como qualidade, eu estou ‘noiva’, ‘comprometida para um casamento’, então o correto é dizer ‘engaged’ | I am engaged.

8) Whore = protistuta

9) Master = adjetivo = mestre

10) “He tried his darnedest in every class” = a palavra radical é “darned” = maldito ou terrivelmente. E continua dizendo:

11) And made tenth grade = fez (conseguiu passar) a 10 (décima) série. (aqui no Brasil é o equivalente ao chamado colegial)

12) By the skin of his ass = expressão: Por um triz.

Originalmente ela seria dita assim: By the skin of his teeth.

My: By the skin of MY teeth.

Ela conseguiu por um triz: By the skin of HER teeth.

Ele conseguiu por um triz: By the skin of HIS teeth.

13) I dare you – to dare = desafiar. Eu te desafio = I dare you

I dare HER/ HIM/ US...

14) To argue – argumentar, afirmar, deduzir

15) Leech – parasita

16) To bother = incomodar

17) Blue = triste

18) To give a rats ass = expressão : ‘dar a mínima, estar nem aí’.
